The VocMat project was created to develop an innovative, flexible training method for middle and senior management in the European tourism industry.
It brought together partners from universities and tourism organisations involved in vocational training in Scotland, England, Estonia and Iceland.
Skills that are relevant to both public and private sector enterprises – large & small.
The research carried out as part of the VocMat project covered all sizes and types of tourism business across both the private and public sectors. Many identical barriers to accessing relevant training and similar gaps in knowledge or skills were identified by tourism managers, irrespective of the size or type of business or organisation. VocMat is suitable for accommodation providers, visitor attraction operators and other businesses in the private sector as well as managers in destination management and marketing organisations and regional or local tourist offices. It is also relevant for management in related sectors with similar problems to those faced by the tourism industry.
